In today’s post we give a shout-out to amazing people doing amazing things! This world-class coach is, Julian Collins Sr., Co Owner/ Coach of GetFit1st-Fitness Studio in Chicago, Illinois. He coaches anyone who wants to improve their overall health and wellness. From multi sport athletes to everyday people recovering from sudden injuries looking to improve their well being.
When asked “why” he coaches, he states, “I was extremely fortunate to have been coached by some great people. Sports have played such a big part in my life that this is a small token of my appreciation to coach these future athletes.”

Driven to give back, Julian explains that his clients are his inspiration. Just like his coaches were there to support him, Julian mirrors that in his actions. “I like to be my client’s “hype man” each training session. Now, that doesn’t mean that I’m just cheering on each rep of each exercise. There are days when you don’t want to be in the gym, when you don’t want to be in your session. I’m there to help you get through it and as a bonus make you feel better than you did when you walked through the door.”
With 17 years under his belt, he wants to leave a mark on the industry. But not just any mark. He wants people to know that this industry is more than just physical. He has seen the positives that fitness creates and it has no limits to what it does for each person. It changes lives.
His advice for coaches, is that you must evolve. “If you’re not evolving with the times, just like dinosaurs, your fitness training and knowledge will become extinct. Never feel you’ve learned everything about this industry, it’s always changing.”
Julian upgrades his coaching craft regularly, and continues to pursue the advice of his mentors. He explains that his mother used to always say, “it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it…” He attended a workshop with Coach Nat and Rich of the Upgrade Guys. He feels that they have played a big role in the focus they give to their clients, “these guys are a true testament to my mother’s saying, and that is one thing that linked us together.”
He goes on to say he considers Pivotal his mentor too. “Scott and Hayley to me are more than coaches, they are friends. You guys took me in with open arms to help me be a better coach and I truly valued what you both saw in me and the way I coach.”
Julian attended the Pivotal Mentorship in May 2019. When asked about his experience he says, “Pivotal has helped me fine tune my coaching while filtering out the ‘white noise’ that we hear and see an overload about fitness.” Julian recommends the Mentorship to a coach who “is willing to learn, has a true passion in evolving to ensure you’re providing quality service to your clients. This is for the coach who’s looking to work with clients for not just a season, but a lifetime.”
We are honored to have Julian in the Pivotal community, and encourage you to connect with him and other like-minded coaches.
